St Andrew's Maternal and Fetal Care AIDS Foundation
Our mission is to prevent mother to child transmission of HIV through public education, research and training.
Est. 1998
The foundation was setup in 1998 to create public awareness about HIV/AIDS in Imo State. It was named to honor the dedication and service of Mr and Mrs Andreas Szeibert for over four decades. Both have assisted young professionals particularly from Africa studying in Europe and through their dedication inspired them. The Foundation organizes yearly public march/rally [Photo] around the Imo State capital - Owerri to alert people and the medical community about the dangers of HIV/AIDS transmission. Since 1998, the foundation focused on mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) and sponsored lectures to the medical community and the public. The foundation is active in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental agencies to improve the information available to people on HIV/AIDS transmission. The foundation is particularly interested on safe guards for the blood banks available to pregnant women through improved detection of the viral particles. The foundation is working towards a centralized screening laboratory for blood and blood products, encouraging active collaboration of the public and private sectors. The foundation sponsors industrial training of students on relevant polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technologies. The foundation collaborates with international donors on MTCT prevention using highly active antiretroviral therapy and supports distribution.
