Institute of  Ultrasonics & Biomedical Research

Our mission is  to develop ultrasound solutions for
prevention  of Stroke.
Est. 2002
The institute of Ultrasonics and Biomedical
Research (IUBR) focuses on developing theoretical
concepts that could form the basis for new
ultrasound devices. The institute works with
industry R&D programs. Recent research examines
development of an implanted transcranial Doppler
(TCD) device for thrombolysis - US. Patent
6468219, other ongoing work centers on
development of artificial intelligent ultrasound
probes that autosteers the probe to find vessels in
the brain - US Pat
6547737. Work in the institute
also examines applications of the newly developed
transcranial Doppler spectroscopy (TCDS) such as
for facial recognition algorithms - US Pat
6773400
and
20040158155. The institute has two affiliate
laboratories:
1. Mckinney Neurosonology laboratory named in
memory  of  Prof. William McKinney, for his life work
in training medical professionals worldwide  in
neurosonology.
2. Koelbl Echocardiography Laboratory named in
recognition of the work by Erwin Koelbl whose
tireless effort has brought donated diagnostic
instrumentation to many countries in Africa.
